VOLUNTEERS are needed to help re-engage at-risk and academically challenged students through a pilot program based at Galvin Park Secondary College in Werribee.
The Beacon Foundation’s Buddy Up Program is designed to enhance students’ employment skills and increase knowledge of career pathways and opportunities available.
The student will select an area or industry of interest and be matched to a person working in the relevant field. The volunteer’s responsibility is to complete a day’s training and then give time to assist and support the student on a one-to-one basis for about one hour a week over six weeks.
This will be followed by a week of work experience at the volunteer’s place of employment.
