When sport meets art then it’s better to ‘Go’ with the flow

FOOTSCRAY Community Arts Centre will fuse art and sport as part of a new project being run in association with the Western Bulldogs.
“Go” is billed as exploring the themes of passion, participation and performance in sport and the arts.
Project coordinator Jeremy Gaden said the performance would be developed through a series of workshops involving a diverse range of local residents.
These residents will participate in animation, video and audio technology, hip-hop music, dance and children’s art initiatives.
“The project is about the space between art and sport and belonging to a group,” he said.
“I guess the idea for the project derived out of a sense of belonging that a lot of community members in the West feel and then looking into that a bit further.”
He said the project would explore ideas such as what it means to barrack for the Western Bulldogs and being part of community groups such as “your local line dancing group or quilt making group”.
Mr Gaden said the project offered an opportunity for sports fans to become enthused by the arts and vice-versa.
“It’s about building audiences for them and for us,” he said.
He said the initiative had scope to involve about 60 people from community groups across the western suburbs.
Performances will take place in various venues around Footscray in November. Inquiries 9362 8888.
