SATURDAY was a successful day on the field for the Yarraville Club Cricket Club, with two of its four senior teams claiming first innings points and the other two sides in good positions at stumps n their Victorian Turf Cricket Association matches.
Altona North won the toss and batted in the First XI clash at Hansen Reserve and was dismissed for 70 in the 52nd over.
Dynamic Yarraville fast bowler Shane McEachran tore through the opposition, claiming 4/13 from 13 overs, and was ably supported by spinner Gary Turner (2/7 from six) and Justin Baker (2/24).
Recruit Colin Smart also had the visitors on the back foot as he finished with 1/8 from 11 overs, including seven maidens.
In reply, the Clubbers are in a position of strength at 2/102 with Justin Baker scoring 39 and Chris Wright notching up 30, with Peter Herrick unbeaten on 30.
The Second XI met Melbourne High School Old Boys for the first time in six years and performed well, scoring 232 after being sent into bat by the home side.
John Gibbs made a sterling 62 and Darryl Hodgson scored an elegant 51 as they added 66 for the fourth wicket, and Brenten Epema chimed in with 32 in the middle order.
The Thirds are wellplaced in their encounter with Youlden Parkville at McAlister Oval.
After being sent into bat, Yarraville scored 157 thanks to skipper Adam Jordan’s 37, Mick Wedding’s 33, opener Marc Hussey’s 23 and Derek Mott’s contribution of 22.
Youlden Parkville faced an anxious 15 overs and finished the day on 1/26.
The Fourths hosted Youlden Parkville and skipper Martin Pedreira sent the visitors in before storming through their lineup to claim 5/11 from seven overs.
Teenagers Garry Gath (2/20) and James Davies (2/21) provided ample assistance as Youlden Parkville was dismissed for 74 in the 32nd over.
The Clubbers claimed first innings points inside an hour and a half as they posted a score of 5/97 by stumps, with openers Steve Campbell (34) and Bruno Grimaldi (29) laying a solid foundation with a 57run opening stand.
