HOPPERS Crossing residents have breathed a sigh of relief after Wyndham Council knocked back an “outrageous” building proposal.
At last week’s council meeting a proposal to build six single storey dwellings on a residential block at 30 Wynarka Drive in Hoppers Crossing was disapproved by every councillor.
Cr Bob Fairclough said it was one of the worst plans he had ever seen.
“This proposal to build six units at 30 Wynarka Drive is I believe one of the most audacious and outrageous proposals I’ve experienced in my seven years on council,” Cr Fairclough said.
“Is it any wonder why this proposal has led to such widespread concerns by the community.
“I can fully sympathise with the residents when like a bolt out of the blue a proposal like this appeared which would have such a dramatic impact on their way of life.”
Cr Fairclough said the proposal would have reduced the current block size from about 2000 square metres to just 300 square metres per unit.
Resident Miriam Galea, who lives just two doors down from where the plan would have been built, was brought to tears when it was knocked back.
“I was devastated when I heard about this plan,” Ms Galea said.
“I was very happy when it was refused.” It is not known if the builder will appeal to VCAT.
