POLICE are searching for a man that allegedly robbed a Werribee pokies venue at gunpoint late last month.
Detectives from the Werribee Crime Investigation Unit were told that cashier section of the gaming venue on Heaths Rd at around 2pm on Sunday 22 April.
“Investigators believe the bandit placed a bag on the counter before producing a silver hand gun and demanded money,” a police spokesperson said.
“He then fled on a mountain bike south down Heaths Rd with an amount of cash.”
Detectives believe the man was wearing a ‘Driza-bone’ jacket, an ‘Akubra’ hat and a scarf.
Just two days earlier on Friday 20 April a Port Melbourne man was arrested in Werribee after fleeing from police.
A man that police wanted to talk to in relation to a theft matter ran into a Werribee supermarket and took refuge in the delicatessen section.
“The 44-year-old Port Melbourne man, with police hot on his tail, ran into the store on the corner of Tarneit and Shaws roads at 12.20pm,” a police spokesperson said.
“The man ran through the store, jumped the deli counter and armed himself with two knives threatening self harm.”
Police said the store was cleared of customers and staff while they negotiated with the man.
He was arrested with no injury and was taken to the Werribee Mercy Hospital for assessment.
He is expected to be charged on summons with public transport offences and theft.
Anyone with information on either incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
