POINT Cook’s tiny tots and their parents will have one more place to learn essential skills with the Featherbrook Community Centre gaining another kindergarten room.
The $913,737 contract for the construction of a third kindergarten room at the centre was awarded to the Nicol Group at last week’s council meeting.
Wyndham Mayor Kim McAliney said the works were part of the City’s $106 million capital works budget for 2011 and 2012.
“These works are part of Wyndham City’s commitment to provide infrastructure for our rapidly growing community – from sporting facilities to early learning provisions,” Cr McAliney said.
“The construction of a third kindergarten room at Featherbrook will accommodate Point Cook’s growing number of children at one of our newest community centres. This facility will expand on the services offered at the two existing kindergarten rooms at the Centre, which also offers maternal and child health services and a number of courses and programs.”
A $2.19 million contract was also awarded for the construction of the Haines Drive Sports Pavilion and car park.
“Both of these projects will contribute to the health, wellbeing and education of our residents from the youngest in our community to those much older. They are part of a much broader plan to provide a wide variety of infrastructure for our residents, no matter their age or interests,” Cr McAliney said.
