THE Werribee Racing Club is opening its doors to Wyndham residents during its busiest period, allowing them to see some of the best international and Australian horses face-to-face.
The first international horse, Lucky Nine, arrived at the Werribee quarantine centre last Tuesday ahead of the Spring Carnival.
General manager of the Werribee Racing Club, Ross Kendell, told Star that he wanted all residents to take advantage of the superstars that would be on their doorstep over the coming weeks.
“It’s fair to say that in the past we didn’t really promote enough that the horses were here and that people can come down and see them,” Mr Kendell said.
“Now we want to get the message out there that anyone who has an interest in seeing some of the best international and Australian horses can come down any morning and see them doing track work.
“They can come here, get involved and soak in the atmosphere. You never know who you’re going to be standing next to; it could be Gai Waterhouse or Luca Cumani.”
The club will also be hosting its second International Breakfast with the Stars on Thursday 31 October, which will see the top names in racing come together while the best horses do track work.
“We’ve also been included in the Melbourne Cup tour so the famous 18 carat trophy will be here on the morning and people can have their photo taken with it,” Mr Kendell said.
In total around 22 horses will be at the quarantine centre during the Spring Carnival.
