A MOTHER and daughter have been taken to the hospital after being struck by a truck while crossing the road at a busy Werribee intersection.
A section of Synnot St was closed to traffic last Wednesday as police investigated the incident.
Sergeant Kevin Hickson from the Wyndham Highway Patrol said police had concerns for the elderly mother.
“We’ve been told that they’re stable but naturally with one of them being 87-years-old and maybe suffering a fracture to her skull, the potential is there for her to become unwell very quickly,” Sgt Hickson said.
“At this stage we’re investigating it and trying to determine who’s at fault and exactly what’s occurred.”
It is believed the mother and daughter were from Burma and neither of them spoke English, making initial investigations difficult for police.
The daughter was thought to be 54 years old.
Sergeant Hickson said the women were crossing Synnot St from the North side when the truck hit them while turning right into Synnot St.
He said it was still unclear as to how the accident happened.
“We have a number of witnesses and at this stage we haven’t got enough accurate detail from them,” he said.
“We’ll investigate the accident and at the end of the investigation we’ll make determinations as to exactly what’s going to happen.”
Sgt Hickson dismissed claims that the busy intersection was notorious for accidents.
Anyone that witnessed the incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
