A NEW mural will be used as a weapon to tackle graffiti across Wyndham.
Sidney Nolan Reserve in Point Cook has become home to the artwork as part of Wyndham Council’s Preventative Graffiti Program.
Local artist Jamie Richmond created the mural that shows a group of people spending time on one of the many park benches.
Mayor Heather Marcus said the mural attempted to stop graffiti taggers from defacing properties in the municipality.
“Council has commissioned similar murals in graffiti targeted areas and has since reported a major drop in tagging that was previously occurring on a weekly basis,” she said. Sidney Nolan Reserve was identified as a graffiti hot spot. The council funds two murals per financial year.
Almost $300,000 was spent on removing graffiti over the past year in a bid to clean up Wyndham.
