Combat veterans in action

THE history of Australian military aviation soared across Point Cook last week. Thousands flocked to the biennial Air Pageant at the RAAF Base Williams to catch a glimpse of the combat veterans. The Southern Knights, pictured, deployed in World War II took to the skies during the highly anticipated air show. Commando skydivers began the event by jumping out of a helicopter. The ‘lying pig’ was on display alongside 23 different types of aircraft. The recently acquired F-111 came out of service 12 months ago. Military enthusiasts also learnt about the WWI Sopwith Pup, which was the oldest aircraft on site. Other flying attractions included two Mustang fighters, a Spitfire, Sabre Jet, Hudson Bomber and two Kittyhawks. The Air Force Roulettes lit up the sky to bring an end to the three-and-a-half hour spectacular. 43648 Picture: KRISTIAN SCOTTTHE history of Australian military aviation soared across Point Cook last week.
