Tyre theft at stations

By Bridie Byrne
BRAZEN thieves have been stealing car tyres at the Hoppers Crossing and Laverton railway stations.
The culprits targeted Holden Commodores on 19 February.
Police believe that up to five vehicles were broken into at both stations during broad daylight.
It is unclear whether the thefts were linked to a similar incidence at the Hoppers Crossing Station between June and August last year.
A number of Holden Commodores also had spare wheels and other car parts stolen.
Undercover and uniform police have focused on the Werribee Railway line to tackle a rise in car thefts.
Members from the Werribee police and the Transit Safety Division will swoop on theft from and theft of motor vehicles over the next few months.
There has been an increase in vehicle crime at several train stations including Werribee, Laverton and Hoppers Crossing.
Werribee police conducted Operation Safe Plate earlier this year in an effort to protect number plates from theft.
Commuters were given a set of one-way security screws, which makes attempted theft of number plates more difficult. Drivers have been warned to remove their valuables from view and ensure their vehicles remained locked.
Anyone with information can contact Acting Detective Sergeant Hill at the Werribee CIU on 9742 9444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
