It’s blood, sweat and possible tears this week for Wyndham Vale Football Club’s senior women’s team, but not on the oval.
Every Saturday they go out and give it their all, but this week the girls are leaving the oval behind for a team bonding session like no other.
Twenty team members of Wyndham Vale Football Club’s first senior women’s team will fill the seats at the Werribee Blood Bank today to donate blood.
Captain Jess Heath said it was something the girls had always wanted to do.
“I’ve always wanted to give blood but never done it before,” Jess said.
“We’re just excited to help,” she said.
Every blood donation has the power to save three lives, so together the team could be saving up to 60 lives.
Jess said she was feeling nervous about it all but wanted to stay strong to support the rest of her teammates get through it.
“Doing something like this as a team will help us get over the fear of doing it, and that’s helpful,” Jess said.
“I’m the captain so I can’t look scared,” she said.
“They definitely always look up to me, so I’ll put my brave face on for sure.”
The team is currently third place on the ladder and have their sights on playing in the finals this August.
“It’s exciting, finals footy is what you play for,” Jess said.
If you are aged 16-70 years of age and feeling fit and well you may be able to donate.
Donors are asked to call 13 14 95 to make an appointment or to check their eligibility to donate.
