THEY say if you cannot handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen, and a class of year seven students certainly put that to the test last week.
Food Technology students from Manor Lakes College took part in a Ready, Steady, Cook style competition to test what they had learned over the last semester.
Teacher Seval Dillon said the students were required to create a main dish and a dessert in one hour, using four surprise ingredients.
The ingredients were mince meat, carrot, spaghetti and a pear.
The teams of two’s dishes were then judged on taste, texture, appearance and smell.
“We’ve been teaching them how to use all of the equipment in the kitchen and they’ve been taught a different technique every week,” Ms Dillon said.
“As an experienced cook, to make something in an hour with just the ingredients you are given is really tough going.
“If someone called me and said they would be around in an hour for dinner and I only had a carrot, mince meat, spaghetti and a pear in the pantry, I would freak.”
Ms Dillon said she was amazed with what the students had created.
“They have taken on the challenge and I am so pleased to see what they have achieved.”
Max and Edward were judged the winners of the competition for creating spaghetti bolognese and an upside down cake.
