FOR Point Cook resident Caroline Dular, baking is a piece of cake.
The 36-year-old, who has a love of all things sweet, has turned her passion for baking tasty treats into a thriving home-based business.
After making and decorating her own wedding cake six years ago, Ms Dular decided to take up baking as a hobby while working full-time as a high school teacher.
The self-taught baker has now taken some time off work to look after her two daughters and focus on her cake making business.
The founder of Sweet Caroline’s Cakes believes baking and decorating is a great creative outlet.
“I like to do my own sort of thing and just create and not have any boundaries,” Ms Dular said.
“I like to be creative and make whimsical types of cakes where I have free reign.”
Ms Dular said she aims to create at least three cakes a week but would love to bake more if she had the time.
She said baking is often a time-consuming activity that requires a high level of commitment and a lot of hard work, but she plans her day carefully to ensure her cakes are always created on time.
“It’s about being organised. I plan it out and make sure orders get done on time. I don’t like leaving things until the last minute,” she said.
Ms Dular said she was overwhelmed with the positive feedback she received from happy customers.
“I’m shocked. I definitely wasn’t expecting it,” she said.
“I like to see people happy and see the reaction you get when you make something that’s really special for a person.”
