AN online community is mending the hearts of parents who need support after the loss of a child.
Hoppers Crossing resident Dana Konski is the president of Angel Baby, an online charity created to provide families with an opportunity to talk about their personal experiences revolving around the death of their child.
“It’s a group for families who are missing their loved children who are no longer here,” Ms Konski said.
“I know that no matter how many years it has been since you buried your child you forever think about them and you love them.”
The organisation, based in Wyndham, is run by a group of volunteers who have given up their time to create keepsake books and organise community events for parents.
“We do everything on a voluntary basis and none of us get paid. We give our hearts to the community and create a place where others can turn to,” she said.
Ms Konski said she decided to become involved with Angel Baby after witnessing the grief of family members and friends who were suffering with the loss of their child.
She said she thought it was important to provide a way of uniting families who have similar experiences to talk about their problems and have a shoulder to lean on.
“Society isn’t very open to the loss of children. People are scared to talk about it,” Ms Konski said.
“I don’t think people don’t realise they aren’t alone. There are lot of other people out there, who for different reasons, may not choose to think about it.”
Angel Baby will hold a community event for families and friends at Werribee Park on Sunday 14 October.
