Our new Youth of the Year

By Charlene Gatt
EVERY school has its popular people, its teacher’s pets and its nerds.
But year 11 Braybrook College student Nguyen Huynh has possibly the best title of all.
The 17-year-old has been selected as the 2010 Youth of the Year by the Lions Club of Sunshine.
Nguyen was up against students at Sunshine College, Marian College and his fellow students and was judged on his leadership, sporting and cultural activities and community involvement.
Nguyen is currently studying General Maths B, Maths Methods, Accounting, English, Chemistry and year 12 Business Management and hopes to study engineering at RMIT or Melbourne University.
He also plays tennis and indoor soccer and is involved in the school’s leadership team and events committee.
Earlier this year he received Melbourne University’s prestigious Kwong Lee Dow scholarship.
Now the Sunshine North resident will go on to compete in the Lions Region final next year, where he will go up against students representing six other Lions Clubs in the West.
Teacher Parthena Pallasis said Nguyen was a very honest, generous and warm person, and a worth recipient of the award.
