Mucked up

By XAVIER SMERDON
POLICE are investigating muck-up day celebrations that turned foul at Thomas Carr College in Tarneit last week as a group of students broke into the school after hours and vandalised classrooms.
Star received reports that students had defecated on desks and caused up to $45,000 worth of damage, claims that were neither confirmed or denied by the school.
Principal Dr Andrew Watson told Star it was a small group of school-leavers that tarnished the day for others.
“It certainly wasn’t out of control,” Dr Watson said.
“A small group of students broke into the school on Monday night and vandalised the school.
“We were able to identify those students very quickly and they were dealt with at the school level.”
Dr Watson would not go into details, preferring to focus on the positive actions by the majority of students.
“We’re not prepared to go into details, not everyone needs to know these things,” he said.
“It was dealt with very quickly and appropriately. On the whole the vast majority of students celebrated in an appropriate way.”
A Victoria Police spokesperson told Star that the students broke into the school at around 1am on Tuesday morning and that police attended the scene the next day.
“We attended in regards to a possible burglary and a police investigation is underway,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, at Galvin Park Secondary College in Werribee parents of students have complained that roofing in the science wing had collapsed due to weather conditions.
A concerned parent, who did not want to be named, said that the damage was throwing a spanner into VCE preparations.
“A whole section of classrooms has been closed and I believe they are trying to get portable classrooms in,” the parent said.
“It’s frustrating as a parent because it’s coming up to exams and we don’t know if these new classrooms will be suitable for science students.”
A spokesperson from the school told Star that the effected rooms were never intended to be used for exams and the school was doing everything they could to minimise the disruption to students.
