GILSON College students will learn about fire safety from Caroline Springs Fire Brigade firefighters today.
Full time members, Fire Fighter Rob Mitchell, Fire Officer Steve Attard and Leading Fire Fighter Rod Hovell from the brigade, which is part of the CFA, will be running their first brigade in schools program for 2008 at Gilson College today to grade one students.
The program is presented on Wednesdays to all participating schools within the brigade’s district during terms two and three by firefighters trained in educating children about fire safety.
“The children learn how to perform fire survival actions, such as ‘Stop, Drop and Roll’ and ‘Crawl Low in Smoke’. They also learn how to identify common fire hazards in the home and how to report a fire,” Leading Fire Fighter Mark Brislane, the program co-ordinator, said.
