Rubbish pond

TAYLORS Lakes Reserve will get a makeover.
What used to be a pond filled with water six years ago is now covered with waist-high weeds, rocks, rubbish and snakes.
Nearby Cambridge Cres residents have watched the reserve become the opposite of what was promised.
Diane, who did not want her surname printed, said ducks once lived at the pond.
“We were told when we bought the land that it’s going to be beautiful and there would be barbecues and bridges. We were shown the artist’s impression,” Diane said.
As the years passed, vegetation was planted to act as a water filter.
Residents stayed away due to the area’s poor maintenance and fear of snakes.
Brimbank mayor Natalie Suleyman met Diane to inspect the site on 2 March.
A letter sent to Diane from Cr Suleyman said that Melbourne Water was responsible for the creek and vegetation within it.
Council is to dredge the pond in August as part of its maintenance program, Cr Suleyman said in the letter.
Cr Suleyman also said) that fencing would be provided along Robertson Rd to control access to unauthorised vehicles and illegal rubbish dumping.
Melbourne Water maintenance coordinator Barry Cartledge was expected to inspect the reserve last Wednesday.
Cr Margaret Giudice said Brimbank City Council is working on the issue.
“The weeds need to be pulled out and there needs to be a new filtration,” Cr Giudice said.
“When it was first put up it was nice and clean, but now it seems to be overgrown a bit so we’re working on it,” she said.
