Hollywood plan on table

A RADICAL plan that could see Wyndham become a Hollywood of the West is being considered as part of a review of Wyndham Council’s arts strategy.
As revealed by Star last month, Point Cook resident Tony Hooper from Film West was set to meet with Wyndham Council’s CEO Kerry Thomson to discuss plans that would have arts funding redirected towards the film industry.
Mr Hooper said the meeting was definitely a success.
“It was very, very positive,” Mr Hooper said.
“We’ve now been told that the council is undertaking an art budget review.
“Our biggest concern is that art funding will stay within existing art providers and that it will be a review in name only. The community needs to be deeply involved in this.”
Ms Thompson said council staff were considering Mr Hooper’s suggestions.
“The Mayor, Cr Kim McAliney, key Wyndham City staff and I have met with Mr Hooper and we have encouraged him to provide input into the current review of the Arts Strategy,” Ms Thompson said.
“Wyndham City appointed a consultant to assist in reviewing the Arts Strategy several months ago and consultation has begun with local artists, people working in this field and Wyndham residents who will all be asked to give us their thoughts and help guide the development of the arts in Wyndham.
“We certainly encourage effort to grow all art forms in Wyndham and to support young people to learn in these fields and we will consider Mr Hooper’s suggestions, along with others, within the Arts Strategy review.”
