A SOUTH Australian couple have taken a leap of faith by selling their business and moving to Wyndham to help the municipality’s poor and disadvantaged people.
Tim and Di Size moved to Wyndham three weeks ago after completing their training to become Salvation Army Assistant Officers.
Upon finishing the training they were notified that they would be sent to Wyndham to assist local Salvation Army Captain, Lance Jeffrey.
“Tim and I owned a music store and the call went out that people were needed, so we sold our business and went to training college and this is our first placement,” Di said.
“We’ve been part of the Salvation Army for six years. We moved pretty quickly once we got involved and we just wanted to do more.”
The couple said that Wyndham was considered one of the most challenging municipalities to serve because of its rapid population growth.
“I think the biggest challenge amongst the community is loneliness,” Di said.
“There are a lot of people looking to belong, so this will be an area of focus for us.”
“We want to make this a friendlier and more welcoming community,” Tim added.
The couple have already been faced with one of the biggest issues in Wyndham, domestic violence, with a young woman turning up to their office because she was a victim.
“We know that this is an area of huge need and we’re equipped and prepared to respond to that,” Tim said.
“We’re here to help people in whatever way we can.”
