WYNDHAM Highway Patrol police are appealing for witnesses to a collision which left a police motorcyclist in hospital today.
A highway patrol officer on a motorcycle was travelling city-bound on the Princes Freeway when he intercepted a driver seen using his mobile phone around 11.20am.
The officer had left his bike and was standing on the passenger side of the white van when a silver Mazda rear-ended a Barina nearby.
The Mazda then struck the white van, which in turn struck the police officer and knocked him over the freeway guard rail.
He was taken to Footscray hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
The driver of the Mazda, a 61-year-old Pascoe Vale man, was also taken to Footscray hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the van, a 32-year-old Boronia man and the occupants of the Barina, the 21-year-old male driver and his two passengers, all escaped injury.
