ANIDEAthat came up during a boring maths lesson has seen Tanya Owen selected as one of the top 20 students in a statewide multimedia exhibition.
The dull moment that led to the former Taylors Lakes student breaking her eraser in half last year, made her realise there was more to the two pieces than what appeared.
“I drew a little angry face on and then the idea popped up that I could do something with this little angry eraser-man-character,” Ms Owen said.
She put her idea to the test during her multimedia classes, then, after many sleepless nights, transformed it into a multiplayer game.
What she described as a “weird” project – the Angry Eraser Man Meets the Christoberfest Fairy – is an interactive colouring computer game aimed at a younger audience.
“This little fairy guy pops up every now and then and you can click on him and you get a password,” she explains.
“There’s two different colouring pages, one of them works and one doesn’t.”
Ms Owen now studies for a bachelor of design and multimedia degree at Swinburne University.
She recalls her mother, an information technology consultant, teaching her about computers, which has left her with a love for the technology.
Her project is part of the Top Screen exhibition, profiling some of the state’s best young film makers and multimedia makers creating their work during VCE studies last year.
The project will be on display until 31 May.
