MELTON Shire Council wants business owners and operators within the municipality to nominate their apprentices and trainees for the 2008 Melton Apprentice of the Year award.
The award is presented each year to the most outstanding apprentice or trainee (any year, any trade) within the shire as part of the Melton Business Excellence Awards.
Melton mayor Bruce Rowan said the awards recognised excellence in youth.
“These awards are vital in encouraging and supporting our youth in their career development,“ Cr Rowan said.
“These apprentices and trainees can be held up as role models within the community as the best within their trade. It is important we recognise the hard work and dedication of these apprentices and trainees, especially when there is such a shortage of skilled tradespeople in Australia.”
Nominated apprentices and trainees will be assessed on their career and study achievements, personal skills and commitment to their job and training.
The council’s business growth and sustainability unit manager, Dirk Dowling, said it was important to acknowledge and reward the achievements of young apprentices and trainees.
“There really are some outstanding young people living and working within our community,” he said.
“These are the business owners of the future who will propel Melton Shire forward as a leader in business excellence.”
To nominate a young person for the 2008 Melton Apprentice of the Year award contact Rose Romeo on 9747 7200 for a nomination form. Entries close on 8 February 2008.
The award will be announced at the 2008 Melton Business Excellence Awards presentation gala held on 11 April 2008 at Witchmount Estate Winery, Rockbank.
