DIDGERIDOOS, electric guitars, violins, bouzoukis and flutes are some of the instruments played by members of the Dya Singh World Music Group, who will perform at the Footscray Community Centre on 17 February.
Punjabi musician Dya Singh heads the group, formed in 1993, which has recorded six albums in seven years.
The group performs a wide range of musical styles, from blues, jazz, folk, country and western to Australian indigenous sounds.
Group manager Keith Preston said Mr Singh was sometimes a deeply religious person and at other times a larrikin entertainer.
“He is truly a ‘world’ music artiste — taking his root music out to the world with all his experiences as a multi-racial, Malaysian-born, Sikh musician living in Australia and working with non-Sikh, non-Indian artists,” Mr Preston said.
The group will perform at the centre at 45 Moreland St in Footscray as part of the free summer music series.
This will be the fourth concert of the series, presented in the open-air amphitheatre on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, with a licensed cafe on site.
