GLEN Orden continued its domination of the Western Region Football League’s division two competition with a 172-point thrashing of Braybrook on Saturday. The Hawks took control of the contest early with a six goal-to-two first quarter and never looked back.
Glen Orden slammed on 10 goals in the second term followed by six and 12 in the final two quarters respectively to secure the big win.
Despite fighting hard, Braybrook could manage just six goals in the 34.11 (215) to 6.7 (43) defeat.
Glen Orden coach Nick Diker said it was great to see the depth in his side with a number of players out injured.
“We are probably about seven or eight players away from our best line up at the moment,” he said.
“To have players come in, young guys and new guys, all come in and do a role and play well, I think it worked really well and I was very pleased.
“Last year, I believe our season finished early because we just had too many injuries and not enough depth. This year I think I could pick a senior team each week from 32 guys that I would be more than comfortable with coaching on the weekend.”
Damien Yze continued his outstanding season for the Hawks, kicking a bag of nine goals to be the leading forward on the ground.
Yze has now kicked 58 goals this season from nine matches.
Saturday was his third highest bag for the season, with hauls of 10 and 11 coming against Albanvale and North Sunshine respectively.
He was well supported by Benjamin Stornebrink, who kicked seven goals, while Zac Foley kicked five.
Around the ground Peter Krueger was a standout to be named Glen Orden’s best player.
For Braybrook, Luke Johnson worked hard on what was a tough day to be among the club’s best while six individual goal scorers shared the majors.
Saturday’s result sees Glen Orden move two games clear on top of the WRFL division two ladder with a perfect 9-0 record for the season.
Braybrook sit in seventh spot with a 4-5 win/loss record.
Next week will see Glen Orden meet Caroline Springs while Braybrook will take on West Footscray.
