LAST month’s round eight clash between Wyndhamvale and Manor Lakes saw some of the WRFL’s youngest stars take centre stage.
At half time in the reserves and seniors games, a special Auskick match took place between the Falcons and Storm to mark the first time the two clubs have met.
In total, 94 juniors participated. Wyndhamvale’s Rob Sayer hailed the day as a huge success.
“It was a bit of a history making day with the Storm playing the Falcons for the first time,” he said.
“The pavilion was totally packed with people and from the football club’s point of view, I think it was the most amount of people that they have ever seen there at the ground.
“The looks on the kids’ faces was just magical. At Auskick, they don’t have that noise. Playing in front of the pavilion was a big thrill for them.”
The fun didn’t stop there, with a cartoonist, jumping castle, clown, wizard, face painting, balloon animals and the club’s mascot provinding some of the other family friendly entertainment.
The day continues what has been a huge year for the Wyndhamvale Auskick program after looking as if it may have to fold because of struggling numbers 12 months ago.
However, a partnership with the Falcons breathed new life into the program which is now bursting at the seams with kids and coaches.
Sayer thanked Manor Lakes for their hard work in putting the day together and said he hoped the clash could become a permanent fixture.
“We have had discussions with Tim Webster the co-ordinator from Manor Lakes,” he said.
“We don’t play them again this year I don’t believe but we have had discussions that maybe they would like to host it next year.
“If we played each other twice, then we might host one and they might host one. It would be a huge thrill to go up to Manor Lakes and join in their day.”
