FOOTSCRAY Baseball Club is wrapping up its home and away winter season – and it wants its past players to share in the glory.
The club is hosting a past players day on 22 August from 12.30pm and will be showing off memorabilia and a slideshow of old photos and videos celebrating its 84-year history.
Past players can also cheer on two of Footscray’s seniors teams in action, with Footscray’s first and second XI teams battling it out against Melbourne University in the last home and away games of the 2009 Victorian Winter Baseball League.
The club will also unveil a new uniform on the day.
The club, which started up in 1925, played curtain-raiser games for the Victorian Football League at the Western Oval.
It now has about 200 members, ranging from the under 12 Little Leaguers to the senior teams, and usually fields three senior men’s teams, one or two senior women’s teams and at least three junior teams in the Baseball Victoria competition.
In October, Footscray Baseball Club will become co-tenants of a new pavilion at Hanks Reserve, which is currently being constructed.
The club is looking for anyone who has played for, played against or supported the club to join in on the day and supply memorabilia.
