TOUGH midfielder Ben Sharp and classy backman Matthew O’Dwyer tied for Werribee Football Club’s best-and-fairest on Friday night.
Former West Coast Eagle Sharp led for most of the night, but a superb back-end of the season helped Matthew O’Dwyer equal Sharp with the most votes to share the Bruce Montgomery Trophy.
The duo polled 104 votes each, with Ben Ross, delisted from North Melbourne three weeks ago, polling third with 96 voted.
Werribee coach Paul Satterley recently said Ross deserved another chance at an AFL club, and has all year championed O’Dwyer as a potential draftee. O’Dwyer came to the Tigers this year after being delisted from Sydney.
The other major votegetters were: Rob Castello (66), Dom Gleeson, Will Martinello (63), Majak Daw, Jarrod Mather (58), Sam Wormald (55), Travis Tuck and Hamish McIntosh (55).
Ben Moloney won the reserves best-and-fairest with 91 votes, with Travis Lunardi coming in second.
The highly regarded team player of the year award, which tallies one-percenters, went to Moloney, while Brad Mangan was named best finals player.
Other award winners were: community player award, Jared Risol; best first-year player, Sean Tighe; most improved, Kyle Hartigan; most consistent, Jarrod Mather; coach’s award, Tom Ruggles; most committed, Travis Tuck.
