ALMOST five years after her husband was brutally killed, a Werribee mother is still searching for answers.

Karen Incledon had just received a call from her sister wishing her a happy birthday on 27 November 2008 when she went outside to discover her husband Shane Hunt lying injured in her backyard.

He appeared to have been hit over the back of the head and was only just breathing.

Attempts to revive him failed and he died later that day.

The Victoria Police Homicide Squad investigated the death and despite no one ever being charged the case was scheduled to be heard at a coroner’s inquiry yesterday.

As well as losing her best friend, Ms Incledon was also left with a half-finished house that she and Shane had planned to turn into their dream home.

She has also been forced to raise two young girls on her own.

“Every day Shane would walk through the door and just be full of life and now we don’t have that,” Ms Incledon said.

“The girls have really struggled to deal with it. I think I kept how I was feeling from them for a long time because they were frightened of being here and living in their own home.”

Ms Incledon said she had received very little communication from investigators and everything she knew about her husband’s death was a result of her own searches.

“I sort of look at the way things have happened and I honestly do not believe there is enough support out there for people,” she said.

“There has not been a day where I can say that I have just been able to put this all aside.

“All I want is for an angel to come in and fix everything for me.”

Ms Incledon said she hoped the coroner’s inquiry would help give her closure.

“I want someone to be accountable and I want closure. They can’t just get away with this,” she said.

Both Karen and her two daughters have received regular counselling following Shane’s death.
