WERRIBEE has added more ex-AFL talent to its 2013 playing list with Scott Clouston joining the Tigers for the 2013 VFL season.
Clouston was drafted by the Brisbane Lions in the 2006 Rookie Draft before earning promotion onto the senior list in 2008.
He played two AFL games before being delisted.
The tall forward went on to play 52 senior games for Redland in the North East Australian Football League where he was a dominant force, claiming both a club and league best and fairest award.
“I am really looking forward to meeting my new teammates and the opportunity to earn their respect prior to the commencement of the VFL season this year,” Clouston said.
“I have appreciated the support and assistance Werribee FC has provided to me and the professionalism they have shown.
“The club had a great year in 2012 and I hope that I can contribute to the team’s success in 2013.”
Clouston joins former AFL talent Brett Meredith, Addam Maric, Jarred Moore and Michael Ross to join Werribee in the off-season.
The Tigers were also able to retain league best and fairest winner Ben Ross.
Head coach Scott West said it is great to have Clouston on board.
“He is coming off a club best and fairest year and team of the year selection and is exactly the type of player we have been looking to add to our forward structure,” West said.
“He was very popular in Brisbane with his teammates and supporters, so he is a good fit at Avalon Airport Oval.
“He has recently moved locally for work and we are really happy he is joining us.”
Werribee will begin its 2013 season against Port Melbourne on Easter Saturday.
After losing in last year’s preliminary final, West is happy with how his players have attacked the pre-season.
“I’m really impressed with the way the guys are going about it,” he said.
“Their attitudes have been first class and they are showing a real ability to be able to learn and understand the way we want to go about it.
“Retaining a fair few players from last year has really helped that and obviously their on-field education of players while drills are going on is really helpful for me.
“That was a big part of trying to retain players so we had continuity of players and players understand what is required in our game play.”
