A BARRAGE of morning rain wasn’t enough to keep the punters away from the Werribee Racing Club last Tuesday.
Racegoers enjoyed an eight-race card throughout the day with a mixture of favourites and well-priced outsiders splitting the victories.
Werribee Racing Club general manager Ross Kendell was rapt with the way the track handled the morning downpour.
“We had a lot of calls in the morning asking if the races were off and in days gone by with the old Werribee race track that definitely would have been the case,” he said.
“With the track that we have got, it has really consolidated now and it is just performing so well.
“The industry has recognised what a good track it is by virtue of the fact that we have had so many transferred meetings here over the last 12 months from other venues.
“You just couldn’t tell there was that much rain prior to the races starting. The track could not have run any better. We had great comments from the jockeys, trainers, owners and stewards.”
Werribee Racing Club now turns its attention to its next meeting, which will take place on Friday 22 March.
The meeting will coincide with the special Black Caviar day planned by the Moonee Valley Racing Club that night.
Just two weeks later, weekend racing will return to Werribee with a Saturday card to coincide with Golden Slipper Day.
“Both days are set to provide some really interesting racing and we have had a lot of interest already,” Kendell said.
