TEACHERS from a Hoppers Crossing have swapped places with their students, receiving valuable lessons in a unique education system.
Hoppers Crossing Secondary College was visited by International Education Specialist and author, Jane Pollcok, last week.
Ms Pollock, the renowned author of Classroom Instruction That Works, from the USA, also developed the GANAG system of teaching.
GANAG is an acronym that stands for goals, setting aims at the beginning of class, accessing prior knowledge, new information, activities and goal reviews.
Principal Wayne Terrill said that it was the fourth time Ms Pollock had visited the school and last week she was holding professional development workshops with the teachers.
“This is a great opportunity for staff to work with Jane Pollock on their development and implementation of the GANAG Common Instructional Model, as part of the Teaching and Learning Framework here at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College,” Mr Terrill.
“Throughout the 2013 school year teachers will receive the benefit of ongoing support and communication via regular, planned Skype meetings.
“Jane has focused our teaching on using the nine most effective teaching strategies, according to the research she carried out with educationalist, Robert Marzano. The time and effort our teachers now put into the classroom is maximised in gaining the best educational results for our students and this is reflected in our 2012 VCE results.”
