ALTONA Meadows kickboxer Timmy Tse has become accustomed to the ring and already enjoyed success as a Victorian title holder.
His younger 17-year-old brother Kenny, however, is just starting to forge his own career.
But this Friday at Melton’s Tabcorp Park, young Kenny finds himself on the same card as his 22-year-old brother in Rumble in the Jungle 25.
Like Timmy, Kenny had only taken up the sport as a general fitness and weight loss exercise, but soon realised he had a talent for the sport and began fighting.
This Friday he makes his debut.
“I’ve been training pretty hard for the last few months and I’m feeling pretty good,” Kenny said.
“I’m feeling pretty pumped for it and getting a bit excited for my first fight.”
Timmy has been a mentor since Kenny decided to follow in his footsteps.
“I took him to training with me one day just so he could try it out and since then he’s just stuck at it,” Timmy said.
“I just took him in just to try it out and now we’re both in the same weight and we train together.”
Timmy says he can see a lot of himself in his younger brother.
“We’re from the same gym (Ultimate Kickboxing Hoppers Crossing) so our techniques are pretty similar,” Timmy said.
“He’s a bit shorter than me so obviously he’s got more power, but other than that we’re pretty similar.”
Timmy’s fight will be for a yet to be confirmed title in full Thai rules, which will be a change-up from his past experience.
“I’ve been practising (full Thai rules) because I normally fight kickboxing rules and for this one I had to change up my training a bit and focus a lot on new techniques,” he said.
“I’ve been training for this event for eight or nine weeks now so preparation-wise I’m doing pretty good.”The card also features Hoppers Crossing fighters Jono Almond, Chase Haley, Desiree-Ann Maaka, Terance Amador and Areta Gilbert.
Werribee’s Simon Coutsouvelis and James Meany from Bacchus Marsh will also make an appearance on the night.
The event kicks off at 7pm.
