AROUND 6000 trees could be planted across Wyndham as part of a Wyndham City Council program.
Planning for the council’s 2011 street planting program has begun. It is expected to begin soon and conclude by early spring.
Currently there are plans for hundreds of replacement and new trees to be planted in residential streets across Wyndham.
Wyndham Mayor John Menegazzo said the program was part of the wider plan to improve City Presentation.
“Street tree planting is one of the most effective ways to improve the appearance of the City,” Cr Menegazzo said.
“Trees planted on nature strips provide important habitats for birds and other wildlife and also improve air quality. Healthy street trees also give homes improved privacy and provide shade.”
Prior to planting, letters are sent to all residents whose properties are adjacent to the proposed locations for street trees.
