Be young, be happy

AN EXCURSION to Luna Park will kick off Wyndham’s Youth Week celebrations.
National Youth Week 2008 will run from 5 to 13 April and is an opportunity for 12 to 25-year-olds to celebrate being young, speak up about things that are important to them and make the most of every opportunity.
Other events planned include an open day at the Youth Resource Centre, a Girls Only Pamper Day, archery, kickboxing, excursions and dance parties. The slogan for National Youth Week 2008 is “Shout.Share.Live.Unite.” Five National Talent Competitions – RockIT, WriteIT, ShootIT, DesignIT and SnapIT – will be held as a way of unearthing some of Australia’s youngest and most dynamic musicians, writers, film-makers, designers and photographers.
Wyndham mayor Kim McAliney said Wyndham was home to almost 24,000 young people, about 22.5 per cent of Wyndham’s total population.
“The Youth Services team is running a number of events which provide young people with a safe and fun way to celebrate Youth Week,” Councillor McAliney said.
“Wyndham’s National Youth Week events cater for young people of all ages and interests from bowling to kickboxing, pamper sessions to music jam sessions. I encourage young people to get involved with the events on offer for Youth Week.”
National Youth Week 2008 is a joint Australian, State, Territory and Local Government initiative.

Meanwhile, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is encouraging all young Australians to enrol to vote.
The Divisional Returning Officer for Lalor, Terrie Page, said: “To enrol for the first time fill out an enrolment form and return it to the AEC. Even if you are only 17 you can complete the form now, and you will be automatically enrolled on your 18th birthday.”
If you are already enrolled and have moved since the last federal election, you can check that your address details are up to date on either the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au or by calling the AEC on 13 23 26.
