Dragon school’s

A FOUR-METRE dragon, made from fused glass and clay tiles, has been unveiled at the Overnewton Anglican Community College at Taylors Lakes.
On Friday students, families and staff at Overnewton Anglican Community College at Taylors Lakes launched the 2007 Artist in Residence Dragon Mural.
The launch included a cultural performance by the Central Victorian Lion Team, well known for its work in Chinese New Year’s celebrations across Victoria.
The dragon was officially welcomed by Parents and Friends Committee chairwoman Janine Hilton and Overnewton Anglican Community College principal Jim Laussen.
Students from Year 9 worked with artist Ettore DiPilla to create the mural, which will provide a colourful addition to the landscape of the college.
Students were taught the methods and techniques involved in the creation of a large glass work with Mr DiPilla leading the workshops that provided hands-on experience for the students and an appreciation for the way in which a professional artist develops and produces works.
Callum Vandeloo could not contain his excitement for the project when he said “it was the best week of my whole education”.
“This has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with a professional artist and we can thank our Parents and Friends Association for their ongoing support of such projects,” said visual arts head Rachel Embury.
