A MAN accused of stabbing his estranged wife seven times has appeared briefly in court.
Stale Trajkovski, 60, faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court charged with intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury.
Senior Detective Peter Bitton told the court Mr Trajkovski and his wife of 20 years had separated two weeks before the incident at the family home in Harvest Way, Werribee.
The court heard Mr Trajkovski confronted his 44-year-old wife about leaving the marriage and the verbal altercation became physical.
Sen Det Bitton said the woman was stabbed seven times, once in the chest and arm and five times to the neck and back.
Police found two knives at the home, both with blood on the handles. They were granted an order to take a sample of Mr Trajkovski’s DNA for analysis.
The court heard the woman managed to flee and went to a nearby shopping strip at the corner of Tarneit and Shaws roads in Werribee where she found help.
Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the woman as she went from the house to the shopping strip to contact Werribee CIU.
The court heard Mr Trajkovski had been on suicide watch since his arrest. Magistrate Duncan Reynolds remanded him in custody to appear in court again in September.
