THIS teacher knows that you never stop learning.
Seddon teacher Brian Martin is a finalist for Victorian Teacher/Trainer of the Year in the Victorian Training Awards. It is the second time he has been nominated for the award.
“It’s a privilege, it’s a pretty big thing and an honour,” the 38-year-old said.
Mr Martin started out doing an Honours Degree in Fine Arts at Sydney University, then went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Vocational Education and Training at Charles Sturt University and started teaching at TAFE New South Wales.
For the past five years he has been teaching at the Kangan Institute, taking on a range of classes including an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Art course and Certificate Four in Training and Assessment.
He also assists and mentors fellow staff members.
Mr Martin is currently doing a Doctorate in Philosophy and Art History at Deakin University and has written a chapter on Indigenous art and archeology in the upcoming book Carnal Knowledge: Towards a New Materialism in the Arts.
“I was drawn to the imparting of knowledge to lots of other people,” Mr Martin said.
The Victorian Training Awards will be presented at a presentation dinner at Crown Palladium in September.
