A WILLIAMS Landing mother has called for speed humps to be installed on roads in the estate to deter hoons from speeding.
Resident Maya Chan said traffic-control methods were needed to stop dangerous driving on roads like Waterways Boulevard.
“I am new to the area, having previously lived in the inner city, and was shocked at the speeds with which people drive through the estate,” she said.
“There is a definite hoon culture and on Saturday nights the Commodores, predominantly without P plates, fly through the estate at speeds greater than 80-90. It is 50 zone.
“I have also been harassed by speeding tradies, who use Waterways Boulevard as a speedway to the point where men have stopped outside my house and threatened me with my young son in the back, all because I was turning into my driveway and it forced them to slow down.”
Ms Chan said many residents have discussed the need for speed humps in Williams Landing and Wyndham Waters, as families moving into the area wished to make sure their children were safe.
“I am new to the area and see a great need to have traffic infrastructure if the area wishes to market itself as a ‘family friendly’ place,” she said.
Ms Chan said some residents “have approached council concerning the problem with hoons and traffic lights (or lack thereof).”
She also said a large number of motorists were using roads in Williams Landing and Wyndham Waters as an alternative route to get from Sayers Rd to Forsyth Rd.
“More traffic lights are needed along the two main roads,” Ms Chan said.
“I believe more lights would slow the traffic to a more acceptable speed, given the amount of families moving into the area and its move to a residential neighbourhood.”
