SINCE its gates were first opened in 1862, the Werribee Racing Club has been a favourite spot for racegoers from both country and metropolitan Victoria.
The first TAB Werribee Cup was won by Ptah in 1916 and following a two-year break, the next was won by Shako in 1919.
One of the most high profile TAB Werribee Cup winners was Makybe Diva, victorious in 2002.
The next year the mare went on to win the first of her three Melbourne Cups.
Last year’s TAB Werribee Cup was won by Unusual Suspect which stormed home to sweep the field on the line to the delight of its trackside owners.
The horse added its name to the club’s rich history books.
