JUST eight days after the race that stops a nation, another champion of the track will be celebrated with the running of the 2013 TAB Werribee Cup.
After being run in the lead up to Christmas last year, excitement levels are bursting at the seams with this month’s Cup taking place in the heart of the spring racing calendar.
As well as following on from the Flemington Carnival, Werribee is also one of a host of weekday provincial cups including Kyneton, Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo making it a must stop destination for racegoers.
Werribee Racing Club general manager Ross Kendell said the spring timeslot was fantastic for the club.
“It is amazing,” Kendell said.
“To be back in the prime time of the spring racing carnival is great for everyone.
“It also fits with other spring provincial race cups with clubs of a similar stature.
“That gives us a real opportunity to grow and get back to where the Werribee Cup was.”
As well as the running of the prestigious TAB Werribee Cup, there will also be seven other races on the day.
The first race is scheduled for around noon.
“The people around Werribee have told us how excited they are to be based in the spring,” Kendell said.
“We have tried to pick up elements of what people have told us for our planning as well.
“They loved the spring date and they loved the car parks so we have re-introduced car parks down the main straight.
“As well as that we will have the mixture of the corporate marquees, the mini marquees, the car sites and trackside enclosures so people will have a lot of options which is what we want to provide.”
Anyone wishing to book a corporate marquee, mini marquee or buy tickets for the TAB Werribee Cup is encouraged to contact the club via its website, www.werribeeracingclub.com.au or call 1300 139 402.
“We have just launched a brand new website,” Kendell said. “Previously we had one for the Werribee Function Centre and one for the Werribee Racing Club.
“Now we have integrated them together so we have the one site.
“They can do their complete online booking or they can use the information and call through to us.”
