THE first major grade separation on the Regional Rail Link line is now complete and open for traffic, Member for the Western Metropolitan Region, Andrew Elsbury, announced last week.
Mr Elsbury was joined by the CEO of RRL to inspect the newly completed Tanriet Rd bridge last Monday.
“This project is a big win for my local community of Tarneit, delivering a railway station without creating any level crossings,” Mr Elsbury said.
“By far the biggest boon of this project is to enable train travel to the people of Tarneit without increasing traffic in the local area.”
Mr Elsbury said the Tarneit Rd bridge was one of 15 grade separations being delivered along with the Regional Rail Link, which would ensure that no new level crossings would be built.
“In fact this project removes two existing level crossings, after the Coalition, on coming to government added additional funds to the Regional Rail Link to ensure the crossings at Anderson Road were removed,” he said.
“Level Crossing removal provides a raft of benefits to the community, not only by improving traffic flow for motorists, but also by allowing an increase in train services to better meet the needs of the community, as well as providing significant safety gains with the removal of interaction between cars, trains and pedestrians.
“Along with Tarneit another train station will be built at Wyndham Vale as part of the Regional Rail Link, connecting the rail network for the first time.”
