WYNDHAM’S busy roads are stopping fire trucks from attending life threatening incidents.
At about 6.40am last Thursday the Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Truganina Fire Brigades attended a two car collision at the intersections on Boundary and Hopkins Roads in Truganina.
First Lieutenant of the Werribee Fire Brigade, Darryl Wells, said on arrival firefighters found the driver of one of the cars, a Ford SUV was trapped in his vehicle.
“Responding fire appliances had to battle heavy traffic to get to the scene,” First Lt Wells said.
“Fire fighters ask all other drivers to show some respect to responding fire appliances and emergency vehicles, give way and not hinder their progress.
“They should remember if they were trapped in a motor vehicle they would want assistance as quick as possible not delayed by the selfish action of some other motorist.”
Ambulance paramedics treated the driver from inside the vehicle while rescue crews removed the driver side of the car to allow paramedics and firefighters to remove the man.
It took approximately 20 minutes to free the man from the wreckage.
Captain Michael Wells of the Werribee Fire Brigade urged residents to take more care on the roads, especially during the busy holiday season.
