Green light given

A NEW residential estate in Footscray was given the nod last week after State Planning Minister Justin Madden approved a rezoning of the land.
The Cedar Woods site- which flanks the redeveloped Whitten Oval and is about 6.5k from Melbourne’s CBD- has been rezoned from Business Three to a combination Residential One and Mixed Use and paves the way for the Banbury Village housing development plan.
Cedar Woods will now apply for development approval to build more than 300 houses, townhouses and apartments on the former South Pacific Tyres area.
The Village will be a stone’s throw away from Victoria University and the Western Hospital.
The company bought the site two years ago for $10.5 million and has fully excavated the area to prepare for possible construction in November or December this year.
“We just feel that the inner-west is a great spot for people to live, it’s got a lot of attributes in terms of being close to the city and got great amenities in the CBD of Footscray, and we felt it was significantly undervalued,” Cedar Woods Victorian State Manager Nathan Blackburne said.
“Both our development and the Whitten Oval redevelopment will act as a further catalyst for the regeneration of the area. The Whitten Oval is a great neighbour to have and future residents will have access to childcare facilities, sporting facilities, and the public open space.”
The company is also driving the development of new suburb William’s Landing at the former RAAF Williams base in Laverton.
