THE kids at Taylors Hill YMCA got a special treat on the eve of the AFL Grand Final with former Collingwood footballer Brodie Holland dropping by for their footy day.
Holland held a special grand final eve quiz for the kids, stumping them on a question or two, before signing autographs and posing for photos.
“I’ve got a couple of kids here who I’m friends of their family and I thought I would come down for the footy day. The kids are pretty excited about this week and today so it was good,” Holland said.
With a number of Collingwood and Geelong jumpers in the room, the 154-game player said he loved finals time.
“It’s great, it’s the best time of the year … especially when your team is going so well and they are in the grand final and it’s just a great time to be in Melbourne,” Holland said.
Since retiring from the AFL, Holland has been busy dominating the Essendon District Football League in a Maribyrnong Park jumper.
He coached and played in the side’s back-to-back premierships in 2009/10 and was a part of the team that lost in the semi-final to Greenvale last month.
Since then he has taken some time to think about what is next for him in football.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure if I’m playing or coaching or having a rest yet. I haven’t made up my mind what I’m doing. I’ll have a think about it over the next two or three weeks and then worry about it after that,” Holland said.
“I’ve got no real motivations to coach in the AFL at this stage. I’m just concentrating on family at the moment. If I have the time I might play or coach at local level somewhere.”
Holland was confident Maribyrnong would be able to turn around its form next season.
“We probably just have to tweak a few things. I think the biggest thing around mid-year was probably injuries and getting a few things right there with the structure and getting blokes out onto the field a bit quicker and making sure our rehab is a little bit better than this year,” he said.
