Spurs set to dominate

BY KATIE LAMBESKI
THE Victoria University St Albans Spurs are well-placed to continue their dominance of the VWFL, with the same coaching staff that guided the seniors to a premiership and the reserves to a grand final to stay on for season 2012.
The title-winning pair of Lloyd Balshaw and Debbie Lee have re-signed, as have premier reserves coaches Kate Jennings and Rebecca Towns.
Balshaw, the veteran coach of seven Western Region Football League clubs, was instrumental in the Spurs’ success last season.
Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the club, another challenge awaits in 2012.
Lee also returns to the senior fold as coach, keen as ever for success this campaign.
The VWFL legend is thrilled to have Balshaw back in the fold. She may be in the twilight of her career, but continues to play a big part in growing the women’s football game on and off field.
Kate Jennings takes the reins as head reserves coach for her third year.
She has had a very successful tenure, taking the reserves to the finals in 2010 and the grand final in 2011.
Towns returns to the assistant coach’s role for her second season. She is keen to back up her second year in the job after a very successful 2011 season. Vocal and passionate about the game and the club, Towns has also taken on a recruiting role at the club.
The VU St Albans also has a Youth Girls side in the Western metro competition.
Pre-season has started and is held at 6.30pm. Pre-season training is on Monday and Wednesday nights. The club is always looking for new players. For more information please call Rebecca Towns 0415 384 867.
