THOUSANDS of horses, their owners and spectators descended upon Werribee last month as the biggest horse show in the southern hemisphere came to town.
The Royal Melbourne Horse Show was held at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.
The four days of prestigious competition is the biggest breed show in the southern hemisphere, showcasing more than 40 breeds of horse and ponies judged in led and ridden classes.
The coveted Best of Show Championship was held on 28 January in which DP Destiny took out the top honours.
Owner of the horse, Samantha McMaster, said she could not be happier with the win.
“We are thrilled that our beautiful mare won today, it has been a team effort to prepare her for this prestigious event and we look forward to many more shows with her,” Ms McMaster said.
Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) presented the popular event.
RASV CEO Mark O’Sullivan said the competition looked likely to grow even bigger in the future.
“On behalf of the RASV, I would like to congratulate the McMaster family for their ongoing success with DP Destiny. The Royal Melbourne Horse Show highlights the very finest equestrian exhibits, and the McMaster’s passion for horses is evident in today’s success with DP Destiny,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
“The RASV is delighted to present the Royal Melbourne Horse Show each year and with a steady growth in entries, new classes and exceptional local and international judges, the competition is the biggest and best breed show in the southern hemisphere.”
