A HOPPERS Crossing woman who saved a man’s life after he was hit by a car in Werribee has said she does not consider herself a hero.
Emma Lowe was driving home from work on Saturday 24 February at around 3am when the person who was driving in front of her suddenly pulled over to the side of the road.
Ms Lowe followed suit, thinking the woman needed help with her car, but before she knew it she was playing the role of a paramedic.
A man was lying unconscious on the road after being hit by a car travelling at least 80 kilometres an hour.
“I ran over because I have first aid training and I just saw him lying unconscious on the ground with his clothes pretty much ripped off him,” Ms Lowe said.
“He had a big gash about a foot long down his back.”
Mr Lowe said the man was losing a lot of blood but her first aid training enabled her instincts to take over. “I started compressing it and tried to slow down the bleeding,” she said.
“I pretty much just jumped into it. It seemed like the longest time ever until the ambulance got there. I was just worried that he was going to die in my arms.”
Ms Lowe said she had since been told that the man had been placed in an induced coma but had recently been woken up.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said that a 30-year-old male was taken to The Alfred hospital with life threatening injuries.
The cause of the incident was still being investigated.
