WYNDHAM residents will have greater access to mental health support with the launch of a new hub in Werribee.
The Wyndham community Western Region Health Centre (WRHC) and the Mental Illness Fellowship – leading providers of mental health services across Melbourne’s West – along with Yarra Community Housing have taken up shared residence at 1 Watton Street Werribee.
WRHC CEO Lyn Morgain said that the co-location of these services demonstrated a joint commitment to work together for the benefit of people in Wyndham.
“The three organisations each have a strong recovery orientation and offer complementary services that serve to enable clients to live a meaningful life beyond the effects of having a mental illness or mental health issues,” Ms Morgain said.
“Via the Watton St hub, people with mental illness can access daily living support to enable them to live at home, assistance and support with community participation, and access to housing.”
Ms Morgain said Wyndham residents living with a mental illness, who may be at a higher risk of homelessness, would be given a hand up with the launch of the new hub last Thursday.
“Together the three organisations’ services provide the building blocks for people to make choices and set goals on how they want to live so they can have a life that’s the highest quality possible.”
“Our community based services work hand-in-hand with people experiencing mental illness to promote recovery and keep people out of hospital”, Ms Morgain said.
